The FabLab Lübeck was the first to be set up in North-Germany. It partners with the Technology Center Lübeck (TZL), GründerCube, the BioMedTec Campus and the science management of the city of Lübeck. In the international technology scene, "FabLab" (short for fabrication laboratory) is an open high-tech workshop in which state-of-the-art computer-controlled processing equipment is available for the production of functional models and prototypes.
FabLab is all about the lean production of highly individualized models, excluding the actual production or even serial production. Students, doctoral students as well as technically ambitious inventors, company founders or service providers, are thus given easy access to current production technologies and corresponding innovation knowledge.
The FabLab team advises the lab users in the handling of the devices and supports the process from the idea to the product. This could be done either at the cost price or the principle of consideration. Thus, lab users, who become involved in the further development of the FabLab project, for example through professional contributions in workshops or through active participation in the FabLab community, will certainly receive a beneficial rate, when using the equipment. The 200-square meter workshop of the FabLab Lübeck is regularly open on several weekdays. Workshops and seminars are also taking place in this innovative set-up.
